Submissions

We welcome article and review submissions from Jewish authors, agents, librarians and editors! (For questions about what that means, or the site itself, please see my FAQ page).

We especially welcome contributions from Jews of color, LGBTQ+ Jews, disabled Jews and neurodiverse Jews, however you do NOT under any circumstances have to share that information with us or anyone else.

Bookishly Jewish is open to the following types of contributions:

-Reviews of books with Jewish *POV* characters

-Reviews of nonfiction or poetry that contain Jewish themes

-Interviews with Jewish authors or Jewish publishing professionals

-Cover or excerpt reveals for books with Jewish *POV* characters

-Round ups of Jewish books surrounding a particular theme

  • If you think you have a great idea that fits the site but isn’t listed here, feel free to pitch it!
  • Please do not pitch a review of your own book.

Review Guidelines:

We’re using the term “review” loosely. Bookishly Jewish reviews are different than those you will find on other websites. The focus is not on the technical skill of the writer or on giving a plot summary, although it is fine if these appear in your review. Instead the reviewer shares their personal experience of reading the book, the journey it took them on, the way it shaped and changed them. In short, why was this book so meaningful to you that you decided to sit down and write a whole article on it? This means by definition that all reviews are personal and the sole opinion of the reviewer.

Please send all reviews and pitches to BookishlyJewish@gmail.com and include the following:

-The word “pitch” in your subject

-Book title, author and publication date in the body of the email

-For book reviews please attach your review as a word document to your email

We will try to respond to all submissions within 2-3 weeks of receipt.

Please bear in mind this is a passion project for us that does not generate income. We are therefore unable to pay for contributions at this time*. However, contributors are welcome (but by no means required) to submit a short bio along with links and a photo for inclusion at the bottom of their article.

*We’re open to it if we can raise the funds, including paying a lawyer to explain tax obligations if we have paid contributors

Hoping to submit a book for us to consider reviewing ourselves?
